0.5 CENT v Voodoo Dunks, week 1 | The Seven Rings* Invitational

0.5 CENT beat Voodoo Dunks 5-4, and the deciding category was as close as they come: field-goal percentage, 46.12% to 46.08%. Voodoo Dunks led 5-3-1 after Tuesday 20 Oct; 0.5 CENT went in front on Wednesday 21 Oct and led for the rest of the week, though by Saturday 24 Oct the gap was down to 5-4.

The swing on Wednesday 21 Oct came from a run of big nights. Anthony Davis had 34 points and 12 rebounds, Darius Garland scored 30, Damian Lillard 25 and CJ McCollum 19, the best game of the week for each of them.

Zach LaVine was 0.5 CENT's top scorer, 29.0 points a game against a projected 20.5, with 37 on Sunday 25 Oct. Jamal Murray only had two games, but one of them was 42 points with 8 threes on Saturday 24 Oct. Murray hit 8 threes for the week, Damian Lillard 8, Darius Garland 9 and LaVine 9, and 0.5 CENT won threes 61 to 47.

Dyson Daniels was the steals story: 13 in three games, 4.3 a game against a projected 2.0, including 7 on Friday 23 Oct, while shooting 62%. 0.5 CENT took steals 42 to 31. Victor Wembanyama blocked 12 shots and pulled down 33 rebounds, but shot 37% against a projected 50%, which is a big part of why the field-goal race went to the last decimal.

Voodoo Dunks had the better of the big men. Chet Holmgren blocked 9 shots over the week, with 17 rebounds and 4 blocks on Thursday 22 Oct, and Daniel Gafford added 6 blocks, as Voodoo Dunks took blocks 40 to 29 and rebounds 216 to 207. Caleb Wilson beat his projection at 22.3 points a game, with 30 points and 14 rebounds on Saturday 24 Oct, and Kevin Durant scored 24.0 a game on 56% shooting. Cade Cunningham ran the offence at 21.3 points and 8.0 assists a game, with 6 blocks of his own.

Where Voodoo Dunks fell short was on the wings. Andrew Wiggins averaged 7.7 points on 36% shooting against a projected 15.7, Jalen Green 11.0 against 21.4, and Trey Murphy III 15.3 against 19.5. Kris Dunn played just one game and filled it: 15 points, 5 steals and 6 of 7 from the field.

Neither side lost a start to a player sitting out: both put all 38 of their games on the floor. 0.5 CENT left 50 points on the bench across 3 games, against 15 for Voodoo Dunks, and Kristaps Porziņģis spent four days on the injured list without playing. 0.5 CENT also gave up more turnovers, 97 to 85, 18 of them from Darius Garland, and still won.
